Greater Manchester’s Third Local Transport Plan
Greater Manchester is the most important economic centre in the UK outside London, with significant opportunities for future growth. An effective transport network is an essential catalyst to realise the potential of Greater Manchester as it connects people to places in a sustainable manner. Meeting this challenge is more critical than ever, as we come out of one of the deepest recessions in generations with lower levels of public funding available.
Through the Local Transport Plan Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) define how they are going to make it easier for people to travel in Greater Manchester over the next few years and beyond. Covering all modes of transport, it outlines how TfGM will provide a viable, sustainable and accessible transport network capable of supporting the region's economic growth long into the future. It also shows how they will reduce the impact that transport has on the environment and help to improve health by reducing accidents and encouraging 'active travel'.
