Dying to be Warm Summit - The cold homes and ill-health challenge

Salford City Council, Salford Civic Centre, Swinton, M27 5AW
Tuesday, 19 September, 2017 - 14:00
Tuesday, 19 September, 2017 - 16:00

Many of the most vulnerable households in Salford cannot afford to heat their homes to temperatures adequate to maintain health
and comfort.

The scale of preventable illness linked to cold damp homes is likely to be a significant factor impacting on the health and wellbeing of Salford’s population.

The number of emergency admissions arriving via A&E departments can be a good indicator of preventable hospital activity.  In Salford the rates of emergency admissions are higher than the England average for conditions caused or made worse by living in cold damp homes.

Emergency Admissions to A&E higher than the English average:
• COPD in all but two of its wards.
• Coronary heart disease in all but three wards.
• Stroke in all but three wards.
• Heart attack in all but four wards.

It’s clear there’s an urgent need for action. Salford City Council has agreed to work with charity, NEA, to find cross-sector solutions to this challenge.

Help Salford confront the challenge and take part in the Dying to be Warm Summit, help find solutions and achieve some of your organisational aims and objectives as a result.
