Amer Gaffar is a sustainability professional with over 17 years’ experience within the sector. Amer launched the Greater Manchester Hydrogen Partnership (GMHP) project at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) in 2013 that aims to introduce Hydrogen technology to the region via a series of demonstration and research projects.

The GMHP, led by MMU and supported by the Low Carbon Hub, is actively trying to support the development of a hydrogen economy for the region, contribute to the targets of the GM Energy Plan through the development of hydrogen and fuel cell-related industry and employment, improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gases and noise in GM, improve energy security for GM and work with partners to review a green supply of hydrogen for the region. Amer was also part of a Department of Energy and Climate Change working group to create UK policy standards for the production of green hydrogen and leads a number of projects to make Manchester a leader in the are of Hydrogen & Fuel Cells. 

Amer leads  the Manchester Fuel Cell Innovation Centre which is a new £4M state of the art facility which was officially opened in September 2018  by Manchester Met chancellor Lord Mandelson.
