Disco Soup Manchester: party with a purpose

For those who may not be familiar with them, Disco Soups are free, collaborative events that celebrate the solutions to food waste and have taken place all over the world, from New York and Sao Paolo to Tokyo...and now Manchester!

Saving delicious fresh food that otherwise would have been wasted, volunteers cut, chop, peel, cook, eat and party together.

“The event aims to highlight the scandal of food waste"

The Manchester day event will take place on Saturday 20th June at The Wonder Inn from 1pm - 8pm. It's free to enter and open to everyone. Guests will simply be asked to offer a pay-as-you-feel donation for the meal.

Disco Soup Manchester will be attended by a brilliant bunch of guest chefs from all over the North West, as they help serve up some delectable dishes and encourage others to grab their aprons and get stuck in.

But that’s not enough! The Real Junk Food Project Manchester has partnered with the brilliant Shebeen and GRUB Manchester to bring you an evening of live bands, DJ’s, beers, cocktails, food and dancing.

They're taking over all 3 floors of the Wonder Inn to bring you an awesome party from 8pm - 1am. This is a separate event, for over 18’s only, and requires a ticket from eventbrite - you can get yours here.

“The event aims to highlight the scandal of food waste", said Corin Bell, Director of The Real Junk Food Project Manchester. "By getting the public involved in cooking and eating, they get to see, touch and taste how perfectly edible all of this food is and find out why it would have gone to waste."

"At a time when people are really struggling to afford the basics, it becomes so important that we don’t waste good food for silly reasons like appearance or best before dates, especially on low risk products."

In order to pull off this foodie disco extravaganza, the lovely folks at The Real Junk Food Project are going to need lots of lovely volunteers to help out!

If you would like to volunteer in exchange for a free ticket to the evening event, lots of food and instant karma, please email: volunteering@realjunkfoodmanchester.co.uk
